HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 26 of Municipal Code; Enacting New Power Rate Schedules 1-3-67/n ORDINANCE NO. 2172 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 26 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS 26-2, 26-3, 26-4, AND 26-51 THEREOF, AND ENACTING NEW RESIDENTIAL, WATER HEATING, COMMERCIAL, AND GENERAL POWER RATE SCHEDULES FOR ELECTRICAL ENERGY AND SERVICE. IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. Sections 26-2, 26-3, 26-4, and 26-5, of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, as hitherto existing, are repealed. Section 2. New sections, to be numbered 26-2, 26-3, and 26-4, are added to Chapter 26 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, and are as follows : "26-2. Residential Rate Schedule. Residential use for the purposes of this chapter include only single phase electric service for residential use in a single family dwelling, or to individually metered apartments, within apartment buildings, and to lighting for en- trances, halls, stairways, and other uses of electricity in connection with the operation of such apartment buildings. Where a residence and a business are com- bined on one premises, service f-r the combined use will be considered residential only if the predominant use is for residential purposes . If the use is pre- dominantly for business purposes, the customer is re- quired to take all service under the applicable commer- cial rate. All rates in this section are per meter for electric energy used during meter reading intervals of approximately 30 days . A. Residential Lighting. For the first 25 Kwh 6.0� per Kwh For the next 125 Kwh 3 .0� per Kwh For the next 850 Kwh 2,0� per Kwh Over 1000 Kwh 1.0� per Kwh Minimum charge $1.50 per meter reading interval or portion thereof. B. Residential Rate with Electric Water Heater. This rate is available to said residential cus- tomers with electric water heaters metered through the residential lighting meters . This rate is not available for water heaters used to produce hot water in connection with a commercial or industrial operation. Seasonal Residential Electric Heating Rate. This rate is available to residential service with permanently installed electric space-heating equip- ment totaling at least 4, 000 watts, for bills dated October to May, inclusive. For bills dated June through September, inclusive, the residential lighting rate set forth above applies. For the first 25 Kwh 6. 0� per Kwh For the next 125 Kwh 3. 01� per Kwh For the next 600 Kwh 2. 0� per Kwh Over 750 Kwh 1. 0� per Kwh Minimum charge $1. 50 per meter reading interval or portion thereof. D. Total Seasonal Residential Electric Rate. This rate is available to residential service with permanently installed electric space-heating equip- ment totaling at least 4, 000 watts, and having an electric water heater approved by the City for bills dated October to May, inclusive. For bills dated June through September, inclusive, the residential rate with electric water heater applies. For the first 25 Kwh 6 . 0� per Kwh For the next 125 Kwh 3. 0� per Kwh For the next 250 Kwh 1. 0(� per Kwh For the next 350 Kwh 2. 0� per Kwh Over 750 Kwh 1. 0� per Kwh Minimum charge $1. 50 per meter reading interval or portion thereof. " "26-3. Commercial Pates. This rate is available for general commercial usage and miscellaneous power uses where the consumption of electrical energy in any meter reading period in any calendar year does not exceed 10, 000 Kwh. All rates in this section are per meter for electric energy used during meter reading intervals of approximately 30 days. A. Regular Commercial Rate. For the first 25 Kwh 6. 0(� per Kwh For the next 375 Kwh 3. 8� per Kwh For the next 3600 Kwh 2 . 8� per Kwh Over 4000 Kwh 1. 5� per Kwh Minimum charge of $1. 50 per meter reading interval or fraction thereof. B. Seasonal Commercial Space Heating. This rate is available for commercial service with perman- ently installed electric space-heating equipment of at least 4, 000 watts used as the exclusive source of heating of the building, for bills dated October to May, inclusive. For bills dated June through September, inclusive, the regular commercial rate applies. For the first 25 Kwh 6 . 01� per Kwh For the next 375 Kwh 3. 8(� per Kwh Over 400 Kwh 1. 5,� per Kwh Minimum charge of $1. 50 per meter reading interval or fraction thereof. " 1-3-67/n "26-4. General Power Rates . These rates are available for service supplied to any commercial or industrial customer where the consumption of electrical energy in any month during a calendar year exceeds 10, 000 Kwh. A customer who exceeds 10,000 Kwh per month in any one month may elect to receive power under this rate. A customer who exceeds 10, 000 Kwh consumption per month in any three months in a calendar year, or who exceeds 12,000 Kwh consumption per month in any one month, is required to receive power under this rate at the option of the City. A customer who elects at his option to receive power under this rate may not return to the commercial rate, except at the option of the City. All rates in this section are computed per meter for electrical energy used during meter reading intervals of approximately 30 days. The following demand charges are applicable to both rates A and B of this section: For the first 30 Kwh per KW of maximum demand per month . . . . . $2.50 For all maximum demand per month in excess of 30 Kw . . . . . $1.25 A. General Power Rate. Energy Charge: For the first 100 Kwh per KW of demand per month 1.5 For the next 200 Kwh per KW of demand per month 1.0 Over 300 Kwh per KW of demand per month 0.5� The minimum charge shall be the demand charge for the month. The maximum demand shall be either the highest integrated load during any 30 minute period occurring in the billing month for which the determination is made, or 75/ of the highest maximum demand which has occurred in the preceding 11 months, whichever is greater. Customers who elect to take service at primary voltage shall be granted discounts of the following type: (a) Five per cent of energy charge where metering is on the high voltage side of cus- tomer-owned transformers . (b) One and one-half per cent of energy charge where metering is on the high voltage side of utility-owned transformers. Power factor adjustment may be made at the option of the City in the billing demand when the customeras power factor is determined to be less 85/0 or more; than 90/ lagging. The measured maximum demand will be mul- tiplied by 85 and divided by the customer's lagging power factor expressed as a percentage. No credit will be given for leading power factors. r 1-3-67/n , B. General Power Space Heating Rate. This rate is effective for bills dated October to May, inclu- sive, and is available for service supplied to any commercial or industrial customer where the con- sumption of electrical energy exceeds 10, 000 Kwh per month when electricity is the exclusive source of energy used in the building. Any customer who exceeds 10, 000 Kwh per month in any one month may elect to receive power under this rate. A customer who exceeds 10,000 Kwh per month in any three months in a calendar year or who exceeds 12,000 Kwh per month in any one month shall be required to receive power under this rate at the option of the City. A customer who elects at his option to receive power under this rate, may not return to the commercial rate except at the option of the City. Energy Charge: For the first 100 Kwh per KW of demand per month 1.5 For the next 200 Kwh per KW of demand per month 1.0(� All in excess of 300 Kwh per KW of demand per month 0.5-� The minmum charge shall be the demand charge for the month. The maximum demand shall be either the highest integrated kilowatt load during any 30-minute period occurring in the billing month for which the determin- ation is made, or 75/ of the highest maximum demand which occurred in the preceding non-heating period (i.e. June, July, August and September) , whichever is greater. Customers who take service at primary voltage are entitled to the same discounts granted under the General Power Rate (A) in this section. Power factor adjustments made under the General Power Rate (A) of this section, apply to this rate also. " Section 3 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are repealed. Section 4.
