AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 78 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS 78-3, 78-4
AND 78-11 AS HITHERTO EXISTING; BY ADDING NEW SECTIONS RELAT-
ING TO THE ISSUANCE OF DOG LICENSES AND DISTURBANCE OF THE
PEACE BY DOGS OR CATS ; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS
OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES,
IOWA:
Section 1. Sections 78-3, 78-4 and 78-11 of the Muni-
cipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, as hitherto existing,
are repealed.
Section 2. A new section to be numbered 78-3 is added
to Chapter 78 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa,
and said section is as follows :
78-3 . Finance Director to Issue License.
"The Finance Director of the City of Ames,
Iowa, shall issue dog licenses upon appli-
cation therefor as hereinafter provided,
upon presentation to said Director of the
certificate of vaccination required by law
and the payment of the required license
fee. "
Section 3 . A new section to be numbered 78-4 is added
to Chapter 78 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa,
and said section is as follows :
78-4. Application for License.
"The owner of a dog shall make application
for a license to the Finance Director of
the City of Ames, Iowa. The application
shall include the following information:
a. breed of the dog
b. sex of the dog
C. age of the dog
d. color of the dog
e. markings , if any, of the dog
f. name, if any, of the dog
g. address of the owner
h. the signature of the owner
i. the date of the most recent
rabies vaccination; the type
of vaccine administered; and
the date the dog shall be re-
vaccinated.
The license must be secured by May first
of each year or at the time a dog comes
into possession or ownership, or has
reached the age of three months after
said date. "

Section 4. A new section to be numbered 78-11 is added
to Chapter 78 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa,
and said section is as follows :
78-11. Dogs or Cats Disturbing the Peace.
"It is unlawful for any person, firm, or
corporation keeping, owning, or shelter-
ing a dog or cat to allow or permit such
animal to go upon the premises of another,
to cause damage to or interfere with such
premises , or to cause serious annoyance
to a person or persons by frequent and
habitual howling, yelping or barking.
No person shall be convicted under
the provisions of this section except
upon evidence of two (2) or more persons
of different households . "
Section All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewi h are repealed.
Section This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and publication according
to law.
