HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Repealing Chapter 18 of Municipal Code, Establishing a Recreation Commission 1 K ORDINANCE NO. 2096 An Ordinance repealing Chapter 18 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa; Establishing a Recreation Commission; Providing for The members thereof; and providing for their powers and duties. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa: Section 1. That Chapter 18 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby repealed, and the following be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Chapter 18 of the Mun- icipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa: 18. 1 Commission Established. That there is hereby created and established in and for the City of Ames, Iowa, a recreation commission, consisting of nine members. 18. 2 Members. That the members of said commission shall be appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council, and all of said members shall be qualified electors of the City of Ames, Iowa, and serve without compensation. The term of office of each member of the commission shall be three years. 18. 3 Powers. That the said commission shall have all the powers which are now conferred by Chapter 377 of the Code of Iowa, 1962, and such other and additional powers as may at any time hereafter be given by the general assembly of the State of Iowa. 18. 4 Organization. That the said commission upon their appointment shall organize and shall be governed in all their doings by the provisions of Chapter 377, Iowa Code, 1962, and any additions or amendments thereto which may hereafter be made. 18.-5 Superintendent. That the said commission shall appoint a superintendent and all necessary assistants for each playground and fix their term of employment, salaries and duties. The superintendent shall have contr 1 of the children while playing on such grounds. 18. 6 Cooperation. The commission shall cooperate with the board of education, superintendent of schools, and with public-spirited citizen interested in child welfare in the government and operation of playgrounds and to that end it may, from time to time, adopt and enforce such rules as it may deem advisable. 18. 7 Budget. That said commission shall on or before July lst of each year prepare and submit to the city manager a detailed budget showing the proposed expenditures for the following fiscal year. All salaries and expenses incurred in the maintenance of grounds shall be paid from the recreation fund of the city. Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. Passed this 21st day of^ September 1965. M. W. JOR N, City Clerk PEARLE P.
