ORDINANCE NO. 2094
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 25 ON TRAFFIC OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY PROHIBITING DRAG RACING;
PROHIBITING DRAG RACING, NUISANCE DRIVING AND TRAFFIC OBSTRUC-
TION; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA:
Section 1. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of
Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by adding the following
thereto to be known as 25-56. 2, 25-56. 3 and 25-56. 4, respectively, of the
Municipal Code of the City of .Ames, Iowa:
25-56. 2 DRAG RACING. No person shall engage in any
motor vehicle speed contest or exhibition of speed on any
street of this city and no person shall aid or abet any
motor vehicle speed contest or speed exhibition on any
street of this city, except that a passenger shall not be
considered as aiding and abetting. Motor vehicle speed
contest or exhibition of speed are defined as one or
more persons competing in speed in excess of the ap-
plicable speed limit in vehicles on the streets of the
city. Any person who violates the provisions of this
section shall be guilty of drag racing.
25-56. 3 NUISANCE DRIVING. Any person operating
any vehicle who executes turning movements, accelerates
or decelerates in such a manner as to cause the tires to
produce loud and unusual noises, except when necessary
to prevent an accident, is guilty of nuisance driving.
25-56. 4 TRAFFIC OBSTRUCTION. Any person operating
any vehicle who, contributes to traffic congestion by
traveling upon a particular street with such frequency and
in such a manner as to indicate an aimless route of travel
with no immediate destination, is guilty of traffic obstruc-
tion.
Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall upon conviction be subject to a fine not exceeding one hundred
dollars, or by imprisonment not exceeding thirty days.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication as provided by law.
