HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 25 of Municipal Code, Prohibiting and Limiting Parking ORDINANCE NO. 2078 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 25 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBPARAGRAPHS (8), (12), (13), (32), (52) AND (56) OF SECTION 25-105. 17; REPEALING SECTIONS 25- 101. 1, 25- 101, 5, 25-101. 6, 25- 101. 7 and 25- 101. 14; REPEALING ORDINANCES 1080 AND 2045; AND REPEALING SECTION 25- 137. 1 THEREOF; AND PROVIDING FOR PROHIBITED PARKING ON CERTAIN STREETS, LIMITED PARKING FOR CERTAIN HOURS ON CERTAIN DAYS ON CERTAIN STREETS, PROHIBITED PARKING DURING CERTAIN HOURS ON CERTAIN STREETS PROVIDING FOR CHARGES FOR OVERTIME PARKING VIOLATIONS, AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section 1. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa be and the same is hereby amended by repealing subsections (8), (12), (13), (32), (52), and (56) of Section 25- 105. 17; and the following be and the same are hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as subsections (8), (12), (1:3), (32), (52), and (56), respectively, of Section 25-105. 17 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa: 25-105. 17 Parking is hereby prohibited at all times, except as may be otherwise provided in the subparagraphs following, on the streets of the City, as follows: (8) Clark Avenue, on both sides from Fifth Street to Sixth Street, and on the West side thereof from Sixth Street to Seventh Street, and on both sides thereof from the North line of the Chicago and North Western Railway Company right of way to Main Street. (12) Douglas Avenue, on the East side from Eleventh Street to Thirteenth Street, and on the East side thereof from Sixth Street to Seventh Street. (13) Duff Avenue, on both sides from Lincoln Way to Thirteenth Street, and on the East side thereof from Thirteenth Street to Twentieth Street. On South Duff Avenue on both sides from Lincoln Way to the South corporate limits; provided, however, that parking may be permitted in specifically designated areas back of the sidewalk, and further provided that parking shall be pro- hibited on minor street approaches for a distance of 35 feet in advance of a stop sign and on exit sides of the minor streets for a distance of 35 feet back of the crosswalks. (32) Main Street, on the South side thereof from Clark 'Street to Grand Avenue, and on the North side thereof from Pearle Street to Grand Avenue. (52) Wilson Avenue, on both sides from Fifth Street to Sixth Street. (56) Sixth Street on the South side from Duff Avenue to the West side of Brookside Park, and on the North side thereof from the Chicago and North Western Railway Company's right of way East for a distance of 100 feet. 2. Section 2. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section to be known as Section 25-105. 18 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa: 25- 105. 18 Prohibited parking Daytime. Parking is hereby prohibited at all times between the hours of 9:00 o'clock A. M. and 5:00 o'clock P. M. on all days of the week except Sundays and holidays on the streets of the City in the subparagraphs following: (1) Seventh Street on both sides from Duff Avenue to Grand Avenue. (2) Douglas Avenue on both sides from Seventh Street to Eighth Street and on the West side thereof from Sixth Street to Seventh Street, (3) Kellogg Avenue on both sides from Sixth Street to Eighth Street. (4) Burnett Avenue on both sides from Sixth Street to Eighth Street. (5) Clark Avenue on both sides from Seventh Street to Eighth Street and on the East side thereof from Sixth Street to Seventh Street. (6) Wilson Avenue on both sides from Seventh Street to Eighth Street. (7) Sixth Street on both sides from Duff Avenue to Carroll Avenue, and on the North side thereof from Grand Avenue to Clark Avenue. (8) Main Street on both sides from Duff Avenue East to the East end of Main Street. (9) Pearle Street on both sides from Main Street to Fifth Street. (10) Fifth Street on both sides from Duff Avenue to Carroll Avenue, and from Clark Avenue to Grand Avenue. Section 3. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Ordinance No. 1080 and Ordinance No. 2045; and, the following be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Section 25- 106A of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa: 25- 106A Limited Parking, Certain Hours on Certain Days. It shall be unlawful for any person to park a vehicle on the streets hereinafter designated between the hours of 8:00 A. M. and 5:00 P. M. on the days hereinafter designated. The City Manager shall have appropriate signs erected on said streets. (1) Douglas Avenue. On the East side thereof from Eighth Street to Eleventh Street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the West side thereof on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (2) Kellogg Avenue. On the East side thereof from Eighth Street to Thirteenth Street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the West side thereof on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 3. (3) Burnett Avenue. On the East side thereof from Eighth Street to 'Thirteenth Street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the West side thereof on Monday, Wed- nesday and Friday. (4) Clark Avenue. On the East side thereof from Eighth Street to Thirteenth Street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the West side thereof on Monday, Wed- nesday and Friday. (5) Welch Avenue. On the East side thereof from Knapp Street to Storm Street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the West side thereof on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (6) Hunt Street. On the North side thereof from South Sheldon Avenue to Welch Avenue on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the South side thereof on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (7) Arbor Street. On the North side thereof between Hyland Avenue and State Avenue on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and on the South side thereof on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Section 4. That Sections 25- 101. 1, 25-101. 5, 25-101. 6, 25- 101. 7 and 101. 14 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same are hereby repealed. Section 5. That Section 25-137. 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby repealed and the following be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Section 25-137. 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa: 25- 137. 1 Overtime Parking Violations. The penalty provided in Section 25-137 shall not apply to a ticket issued for overtime parking, provided the recipient shall within 24 hours after the time of the commission of the violation, place $1 . 00 in bill or coin in the envelope upon which the overtime parking notice is printed, and place the same in one of the special containers provided for that purpose near the front door of the City Hall, and at the intersection of Welch Avenue and Lincoln Way or at such other collection boxes as may from time to time be provided. Nothing in this section shall prevent the imposition of the penalty provided in Section 25-137 if, in the opinion of the court, a greater penalty is required in dealing with repeated or frequent violations. Section 6. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not exceeding One Hundred Dollars, or be imprisoned not exceeding Thirty (30) days. Section 7. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 8. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. Passed this 20th day of July 1965. M. W. ' JORDAX City Clerk PEARLE P.
