HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Adopting an Official Flag of the City r ORDINANCE NO. 2050 N ORDINANCE ADOPTING AN OFFICIAL FLAG OF THE CITY OF AMES, OWA, AND PRESCRIBING THE USE THEREOF Be It Ordained By The City Council of The City of Ames, Iowa, as follows: Section 1. Specifications and adoption. That the flag designed by Beverly Bartels and presented by the College Savings Bank before the City Council on September 1, 1964, which flag consists of the background colors white and gold and approximately 1/ 3 nearest the staff being white, and upon the white background being depicted the following in the color gold trimmed in black: three overlapping, variable size gears, and below and to the left of said gears a lamp; and below the said gears and lamp a streamer on which is inscribed in black letters the words "Combining Industry and Education with Hospitality", and centered in the gold background in black letters the word "Ames" and below, the word "Iowa", is hereby adopted as the official flag of the City of Ames, for use on all occasions where a distinctive city symbol in the way of a flag may be fittingly displayed. Section 2. Use of City Flag. Such flag may be used as a distinctive city flag and may as such be displayed on all proper occasions where the city is officially represented as distinct from other cities, either within or without the city, or whenever it may be proper to distinguish the residents of the city from the residents of other cities, such display in all cases to be subservient to the display of the national emblem and the state flag or banner. Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. Passed this 20th day of October 1964. M. W. Jor n, City Clerk Pearle P.
