HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Repealing Chapter 1 of Municipal Code and Establishing Corporate Boundaries ORDINANCE NO. 1076 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF TH CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING ALL OF SAID CHAPTER 1; AND ESTABLISHING THE CORPORATE BOUNDARIES AND LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AMES, DIVIDING THE CITY OF AMES INTO FOUR WARDS, AND DIVIDING SAID WARDS INTO PRECINCTS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa be and the same is hereby repealed; and the following be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa with section numbers thereto as hereinafter provided: CHAPTER 1 Corporate Limits - Wards - Precincts 1. 1 Corporate Limits. The corporate boundaries and limits of the City of Ames, Iowa heretofore and at various times established by law, or by the act of the city council, are hereby codified, determined and declared to be as follows: Beginning at a point 500 feet East of the SE Cor. SE 1/4, Section 1, T83N-R24W of the 5th P. M., Story Co., Iowa, thence South 349. 9 feet, thence West and parallel to the South line of said Section 1 to a point 349. 9 feet South of the SW Cor. said Section 1, thence South to a point 823. 05 feet North of the NE Cor, of the NE 1/4, SE 1/4 of Section 14, T83N-R24W, thence East 661. 55 feet, thence South 823. 05 feet, thence West along the 1/4 Section line of Section 14 to the center of said Section 14, thence South 1636. 3 feet, thence S890-381W 420 feet, thence South 205 feet, thence S890 -381W 1794. 4 feet, thence South 800 feet, thence N890 -381E 571. 35 feet, thence S. W. Right-of- Way, thence Southwesterly along the said Right-of-Way line to a . point 250 feet East of the West line of said Section 6, thence South to the South Right-of-Way line of the C. & N. W. Railroad, thence Northeasterly along said South Right-of-Way line to the East line of the W 1/2 of said Section 6, thence South to the South line of said Section 6, thence West to the point of beginning. 1-2 Division into Wards. The territory of the City of Ames shall be divided into four (4) Wards. 1-2. 1 First Ward. The first ward shall consist of all that part of the city which lies north of the main line tracks of the Chicago and North Western Railway Company; East of the centerline of Burnett Avenue; and South of the centerline of Thirteenth-Street; also that part of the city lying north of the centerline of Thirteenth Street and east of the centerline of Grand Avenue. 1-2. 2 Second Ward. The second ward shall consist of all that part of the city lying north of the main line tracks of the Chicago and North Western Railway Company; south of the centerline of Thirteenth Street; west of the centerline of Burnett Avenue; and east of the west half of the west half of Section 3, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M. ; also that part of the city lying north of the centerline of Thirteenth Street; west of the centerline of Grand Avenue; and east of a line described as beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Thirteenth Street and the west line of Section 34, Township 84 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M., thence north along the west line of said Section 34, and following the corporate limits of the city to the north line tracks of the Chicago and North Western Railway Company, thence northwesterly along said railroad tracks to the north corporate limits. -3- 1-2. 3 Third Ward. The third ward shall consist of all that part of the city lying south of the main line tracks of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company lying East of the West Half of the West Half of Section 3, Township 83 North, Range 24 West and South of the centerline of Lincoln Way lying west of the west half of the west half, Section 10, Township 83 North, Range 24 West. 1-2. 4 Fourth Ward. The fourth ward shall consist of that part of the city lying north of the centerline of Lincoln Way and west of a line described as beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Lincoln Way and the southeast corner of the Southwest quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 3, Town- ship 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M., thence north to the centerline of Thirteenth Street, thence west along the center line of Thirteenth Street to its intersection with the west line of Section 34, Township 84 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M., thence north to the Northwest corner of the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of said section 34. 1-3 First Ward Precincts. The first ward shall be divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described. 1-3. 1 First Ward Precinct No. 1. First Ward precinct number 1 shall consist of that part of the first ward lying south of the centerline of Thirteenth Street. 1-3. 2 First Ward Prcinct No. 2 First ward precinct number 2 shall consist of that part of the first ward lying north of the centerline of Thirteenth Street. 1-4 Se cond Ward Precincts. The second ward shall be divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described. 1-4. 1 Second Ward Precinct No. 1 Second ward precinct number 1 shall consist of that part of the second ward lying south of the centerline of Thirteenth Street. 1-4. 2 Second Ward Precinct No. 2 Second ward precinct number 2 shall consist of that part of the second ward which lies north of the center line of Thirteenth Street. 1-5 Third Ward Precincts. The third ward shall be divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described. 1-5. 1 Third Ward Precinct No, 1. Third ward precinct number 1 shall consist of that part of the third ward lying east of the west half of the west half of Sections 3 and 10, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M. and such line as extended south. 1-5. 2 Third Ward Precinct No. 2. Third ward precinct number 2 shall consist of that part of the third ward lying east of the centerline of Hayward Avenue and west of the west half of Section 10, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P. M. and such line as extended south. -4- 1-5. 3 Third Ward Precinct No. 3. Third Ward Precinct number 3 shall consist of that part of the third ward lying west of the centerline of Hayward Avenue. 1-6. Fourth Ward Precincts. The fourth ward shall be divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described. 1-6. 1 Fourth Ward Precinct No. 1. Fourth ward precinct number 1 shall consist of that part of the fourth ward which lies west of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended north; and south of the centerline of Clear Creek. 1-6. 2 Fourth Ward Precinct No. 2. Fourth ward precinct number 2 shall consist of that part of the fourth ward which lies north of Clear Creek and West of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended north. 1-6. 3 Fourth Ward Precinct No. 3. Fourth ward precinct number 3 shall consist of that part of the fourth ward lying east of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended north. Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after August 1, 1963 and its passage and publication as provided by law.
