ORDINANCE NO. 1072
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 42 ON ZONING OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION 42-13
THEREOF; AND PROVIDING FOR BUILDING AND LAND USE IN "C"
DISTRICTS (LOCAL BUSINESS).
Be It Ordained By the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, as follows:
Section 1. That Section 42-13 of the Municipal Code of the City of
Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby repealed, and the following be and
the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Section 42-13
of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
42-13. Use Regulations for "C" Districts (Local Business).
Within any "C" Districts no building or land shall be used:
(1) for other than one or more of the uses herein specified as
permissible in "B" Districts, provided, however, that no
building or land shall be used for a dwelling other than an
apartment building for three or more families constructed,
converted or altered specifically for that purpose, or an
apartment or apartments created or provided in conjunction
with any store or shop; or (2) for other than one or more of the
following purposes, provided they are retail stores or shops
where goods are stored or displayed for sale or services
rendered wholly within a building, and where nothing is fab-
ricated, manufactured, converted or altered except for such
retail trade:
(a) Bakery goods shop
(b) Bank
(c) Barber shop or beauty parlor
(d) Book or stationery store
(e) Confectionery store
(f) Custom dressmaking or millinery store
(g) Drug store
(h) Dry goods or notions store
(i) Florist or gift shop
Q) Grocery, fruit or vegetable store
(k) Hardware or electric appliance store
(1) Jewelry store
(m) Meat market or delicatessen store
(n) Offices, business or professional
(o) Photographer
(p) Private garages as provided in Sections 42-16. 1, 42-16. 2 and
42-16. 3
(q) Shoe store or shoe repair shop
(r) Store for collection and distribution of laundry and dry cleaning
articles, but not for the treatment, cleaning or processing of
such articles.
(s) Custom tailor shop, clothing or wearing apparel shop
(t) Restaurants and cafes
(u) Shirt laundry or specialty laundry with a total washer capacity
not to exceed 100 pounds
(v) Other uses similar to the above.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.

ing the passage of ordinances be suspended, the second and third
readings be omitted and Ordinance No. 1072 be placed on its final
passage.

Mayor DeHart declared Ordinance No. 1072 duly adopted.

certify that Ordinance No. 1072 was duly and properly passed by
the City Council at its meeting on the 7th day of May, 1963 and
published in the Ames Daily Tribune on the 13th day of May, 1963.
