AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 29 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF
THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION 29-1 THEREOF AND
ENACTING A NEW SCHEDULE OF NATURAL GAS RATES, AND PROVIDING
THE TIME WHEN SUCH RATES SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE, AND PRO-
VIDING FOR REFUNDS TO CUSTOMERS UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES
BASED UPON COST OF GAS SOLD.
Be It Ordained By The City Council of The City of Ames, Iowa, as follows:
Section 1. That Section 29-1 of Chapter 29 of the Municipal Code of
the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby repealed and the following
shall be substituted in place thereof to be known as Section 29-1 of the
Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
29-1 Schedule of Gas Rates. The rates to be charged for
natural gas in the City of Ames, Iowa for space heating and all
I general use, effective beginning with meter readings from and
after January 27, 1963, are hereby fixed and established as follows:
First 500 cu. ft. , per month, $1. 13
Next 2, 500 cu. ft. , per month, $1. 205 per M
Next 7, 000 cu. ft. , per month, $0. 825 per M cu. ft.
Next 40, 000 cu. ft. , per month, $0. 685 per M cu ft.
Next 50, 000 cu. ft. , per month, $0. 625 per M_cu. ft.
Next 100, 000 cu. ft. , per month, $0. 525 per M cu. ft.
Over 200, 000 cu. ft. , per month, $0. 445 per M cu. ft.
Minimum monthly bill, $1. 13
The above rates are based upon the cost of gas as set forth in Federal
Power Commission Order, Docket G-15335, effective November 27,
1958, and at the time the Federal Power Commission shall order I
final wholesale gas rates pursuant to the proceedings in the Commission,
Docket No. G-12153 or Docket No. G-15335, or both of such dockets,
then the distributor shall, within thirty (30) days of such order, notify
the City Council of the annual amount by which wholesale gas costs
to the distributor may have been reduced, and the distributor shall
translate any reduction in such costs into terms of a decrease in the
rates above set forth, which said rates shall thereupon be so reduced.
In the event that the distributor received any refund of excess charges
paid by it for periods subsequent to the effective date of this ordinance,
then the distributor shall translate such refund into terms of a
decrease in the rates as reduced pursuant to the provisions of the
sentence immediately above, which decrease in rates shall continue
for a period of twelve (12) months, after which the rates as reduced
in the sentence immediately above shall automatically become effective.
Such decrease shall be based upon the sales in thousands of cubic
feet made by the distributor for the first twelve of the thirteen
months immediately prior to the month in which such refund is
received by the distributor.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

1 Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after January 27, 1963, and its passage and publication as prescribed by law.

and properly adopted by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, at its meeting on the 18th day of January, 1963, and pub-
lished in the Ames Daily Tribune on the 23rd day of nuary, 1963
