ORDINANCE NO. 1043
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 62 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THIII
CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS 62-16 AND 62-17. 2
THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR A MINIMUM TAXICAB RATE BETWEEN THE
HOURS OF 1:00 O'CLOCK A. M. AND 7:00 O'CLOCK A. M. WITHIN OR
BETWEEN ZONES II, IV AND V; PROVIDING FOR TAXIMETER RATES;
DECLARING FALSE TAXICAB ORDERS A MISDEMEANOR; AND PRESCRIB-
ING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
AS FOLLOWS:.
Section 1. That Section 62-16 of Chapter 62 of the Municipal Code of
the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby repealed and the following
be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Section
62-16. 11 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
62-16.11 Division of City into Zones. For the purpose of regulating
prices chargeable under this chapter, the City of Ames, Iowa shall
be divided into five zones. The various zones and their boundaries
are hereby established as shown on the official taxicab zoning map
of the City of Ames, Iowa and which, with all its designations, is
hereby declared to be a part of this chapter. An official copy of
said zoning map including a certificate by the mayor as to its adop-
tion, and its effective date, duly attested by the clerk, shall be
filed in the office of the City Clerk of Ames, Iowa. No person, firm
or corporation operating a taxicab under the provisions of this
chapter shall charge more than the amounts and prices specified
as follows: provided, however, that between the hours of one (1)
A. M. and Seven (7) A. M. the minimum charge for taxicab
services within or between Zones H, IV and V shall be one (1)
dollar.
Section 2. That Section 62-17. 2 of Chapter 62 of the Municipal Code
of the City of Ames, Iowa be and the same is hereby repealed and the
following be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof to be known as
Section 62-17. 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
62-17. 2 No person, firm or corporation owning or operating any
taxicab within the limits of the city shall charge to exceed the
following rates to be determined by the taximeter:
First mile or fraction thereof $ . 40
For each succeeding 1/3 mile or fraction thereof . 10
For each additional passenger for whole journey . 20
For each minute of waiting time . 10
For each trunk carried 1. 25
For each foot locker carried . 50
Provided, however, that between the hours of one (1) A. M. and
seven (7) A. M. the minimum charge for taxicab services within
the corporate limits of the city, lying west of the Squaw Creek,
shall be one (1) dollar.

Section 3. That Chapter 62 of the municipal Code of the City of Ames,
Iowa be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section
to be known as Section 62-21 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
62-21. False Taxicab Order. It shall be unlawful for any person
to make a false telephone call or order of any kind or nature for
any taxicab service whatsoever.
Section 4. Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation violating any
of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined
not exceeding one hundred ($100. 00) Dollars or be imprisoned not exceeding
thirty (30) days.
Section 5. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 6. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication as provided by law.

Moved by Bledsoe and seconded by Eschbach the rules governing the
passage of ordinances be suspended, the third reading be omitted
and Ordinance No. 1043 be placed on its final passage.

Mayor DeHart declared Ordinance No. 1043 duly adopted.

certify that the above and foregoing Ordinance No. 1043 was duly
and Froperly adopted at a meeting of the City Council on the 2nd
day of October, 1962, and published in the Ames Daily Tribune on
the 17th day of October, 1962
