AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 26 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE
CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS 26-2, 26-3, 26-4, 26-5,
26-5 (a) and 26-5 (b) ; AND ENACTING NEW RESIDENTIAL, WATER HEATING,
COMMERCIAL AND GENERAL POWER RATE SCHEDULES FOR ELECTRICAL ENERGY
AND SERVICE.
Be It Ordained By The City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, as
follows:
Section 1. That Sections 26-2, 26-3, 26-4, 26-5, 26-5 (a) and
26-5 (b) of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and
the same are hereby repealed, and the following enacted in lieu
thereof to be known as Sections 26-2, 26-3, 26-4, -, 26-5, re-
spectively, of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa:
25-2. Residential Rate Schedule. Residential use for
the purpose of this chapter shall include only single
phase electric service for residential use in a single
family dwelling, or to individually metered apartments
within apartment buildings and to lighting for entrances,
halls, stairways and other use of electricity in con-
nection with operation of such apartment buildings.
Where a residence and a business are combined in one
premise, service for the combined use will be consider-
ed residential only if the predominate use is for
residential purposes. If the use is predominately for
business purposes, the customer shall be required to
take all service under the applicable commercial rate.
Rate: Per meter for electric energy used during
meter reading intervals of approximately 30
days.
For the first 25 Kwh 6. 0C per Kwh
For the next 125 Kwh 3. 2G per Kwh
For the next 850 Kwh 2 .04� per Kwh
All in excess of 1000 Kwh 1.0G per Kwh
Minimum charge $1. 50 per meter reading
interval or portion thereof.
25-3. Water Heating. This rate is available for sepa-
rately metered operation of heating units or units of
an automatic water heater. This rate shall not be
available for water heaters used to produce hot water
concerned in a commercial or industrial operation.
Rate: Per meter for electrical energy used during
meter reading intervals of approximately 30
days.

interval or fraction thereof.
25-4. Commercial. This rate is available for general
commercial usage and for miscellaneous power uses
where the consumption of electrical energy in any meter
reading period in any calendar year does not exceed
10,000 Kwh.

For the next 375 Kwh 4. 04 per Kwh
For the next 3600 Kwh 3.04� per Kwh
All in excess of 4000 Kwh 1. 5C per Kwh
Minimum charge, $1. 50 per meter reading
interval or fraction thereof.
25-5. General Power. This rate is available for ser-
vice supplied to any commercial or industrial customer
where the consumption of electrical energy in any month
during a calendar year exceeds 10, 000 Kwh. A customer
who exceeds 10,000 Kwh per month in any one month may
elect to receive power under this rate. A customer who
exceeds 10, 000 Kwh consumption per month in any three
months within a calendar year, or who exceeds 12, 000
Kwh consumption per month in any one month, shall be
required to receive power under this rate at the option
of the City. A customer who elects at his option to
receive power under this rate may not return to the
commercial rate, except at the option of the City.
Rate: Per meter for electrical energy used during
meter reading intervals of approximately 30
days.
Demand Charge:
For the first 30 KW of maximum
demand per month $2. 50 per KW
For all maximum demand per
month in excess of 30 KW $1. 25 per KW
Energy Charge:
For the first 100 Kwh per KW of
maximum demand per month 2.04� per KWH
For the next 200 Kwh per KW of
maximum demand per month 1. 24 per KWH
All in excess of 300 Kwh per KW
of maximum demand per month. 0. 54` per KWH
Minimum charge shall be the demand charge
for the month.
The maximum demand shall be either the highest inte-
grated KW load during any 30 minute period occurring in
the billing month for which the determination is made, or
75% of the highest maximum demand which has occurred in
the preceding 11 months, whichever is greater.
Customers who elect to take service at primary volt-
age shall be granted discounts of the following type:
(a) Five percent of energy charge where metering is on
the high voltage side of customer owned transformers.
(b) One and one-half percent of energy charge where
metering is on the high voltage side of utility
owned transformers.
Power factor adjustment may be made at the option of
the City in the billing demand when the customer' s power
factor is determined to be less 85% lagging or more than
90% lagging. The measured maximum demand will be multi-
plied by 85 and divided by the customer ' s lagging power
factor expressed as a percentage. No credit shall be
given for leading power factors.

Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in con-
flict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after September 10, 1962 and its passage and publication
as provided by law.
