HomeMy WebLinkAboutA011 - Email from Story County Auditor dated December 2, 2013 FW: calendar for special election Lucinda J. Martin to: dvoss@city.ames.ia.us 12/02/2013 05:03 PM View: (Mail Threads) Diane- Using seven vote centers for the School Election on September 10, the cost to the school district was $13,123.84. 1 think you can expect a similar cost for March 4. Of course, variables include satellite voting and the number of mailed absentees, so that's just a ball park figure. The last special for the City of Ames (July 2007) cost$23,091.57. All 20 precincts were used for that election. The satellite voting portion was $1,930.76. Lucy Martin Auditor & Commissioner of Elections Story County (515) 382-7210 From: Lucinda J. Martin Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 3:59 PM To: dvoss@city.ames.ia.us Subject: calendar for special election Diane- I read my Iowa Code sections and double-checked with the SOS office. If any of this contradicts previous information, please use this email, not earlier statements. For a public measure special election to be held on March 4,the City of Ames needs to file a full text of the public measure in my office no later than 5 pm on the forty-sixth day before the election (Friday, January 17, 2014) [§47.6 (3)(a)]. Since there are no special election dates available before March 4, 2014, the City can submit the materials any time between now and January 17. Please include the proposed date (March 4) of the election as well as a copy of the council's action (resolution, minutes). I will have some better number of the cost of vote centers soon. Costs of elections vary due to the number of absentee ballots, satellite voting (if petitioned), etc. but I can give you a general estimate.
