Dear Diane:
I am enclosing a copy of the Nomination Worksheets for the upcoming November 6 City Election. The
Nomination Worksheets include a list of offices and the number of signatures needed for each office to be
filled at the City Election. Please examine the list carefully and notify me immediately if you find any errors.
If you have not done so,please complete and return the Planning Worksheets that were mailed out to you in
July. These Planning Worksheets are due in the Auditor's Office Monday,August 201h.
The candidate filing period for the City Election is August 27-September 20. As candidates pick up their
papers, please tell them to type or print the information at the top of the Affidavit of Candidacy and the
Nomination Petitions. Their name needs to be exactly the way the candidate wants it to appear on the ballot.
The candidate also needs to provide their name pronunciation on the Affidavit of Candidacy. This
information is used for the recording of the audio ballots for people with disabilities. When a candidate
returns papers to your office, be sure each form is filled out correctly and completely.
Iowa Code 376.4 requires City Clerks or their designee to have offices open for candidates to file nomination
papers until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20. All nomination papers and full text for all public
measures must be delivered to the Auditor's Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21.
As a reminder, the close of voter registration for the City Election is Friday, October 26 at 5:00 p.m. If you
receive any voter registrations at your office, please fax them to our office(515)382-7221 as soon as possible
and put the original copy in the mail that same day.
Thank you for your help. Your assistance is essential in planning for successful city elections. Please feel
free to call if you have any questions.
Regards,
