This bill, totaling $12,207.36, covers all aspects of the election from the publication of the sample ballot to paying the election officials. Also enclosed is a copy of the memo from the Story County Auditor's Office suggesting the method to be used to divide the cost of the election between our two entities. The total cost of the election was $12,207.36. There was a total of four Mayor/City Council races and three MGMC races. The total cost of the election was divided by seven to ascertain the cost per race. That number was then multiplied by three for MGMC, which totals $5,231.70. I have requested that our Finance Department forward payment for the City's portion of this bill directly to the Story County Auditor and request that the Medical Center do likewise. Thank you for your assistance. Sincerely, Diane Voss City Clerk /dry Enclosures lit o s =° ' ii MARY MOSIMAN Story County Auditor and I Commissioner of Elections 142 December 19, 2001 TO: Diane Voss, Clerk City of Ames 515 Clark Ames, IA 50010 The following is a statment of you account for the November 6, 2001 election with Story County, Iowa covering the following items: DESCRIPTION COST Ballots $2,536.42 Official Publications $325.73 Election Officials $7,755.41 Supplies used at precinct $1,535.79 Test/Delivery & pickup of equipment $54.01 TOTAL $12,207.36 Please make your check payable to the Story County Auditor and mail to this office. Citv Clerk of Ames 515 Clark Avenue CITY Ames, IA 50010 Diane: After reviewing the letter dated 12/22/99 to Karl Friederich, chairperson for the Mary Greeley Medical Center Board of Trustees, and the publication from the November 2, 1999 City Election with Mary Mosiman, Story County Auditor, and Lisa Markley. Story County Deputy Auditor, we suggest that you implement the following to bill entities within a city for electi:m costs. We are suggesting that the City Clerk count the total number of races on the ballot ar.d divulE that number into the cost of the election. An example would be if there were three City COUro:l races and one Hospital Board Trustee race, then divide the total cost of the election by four. Now 25°'G of the election costs belong to the Hospital. We feel this is much easier than the current ►ncthod being used. -o I hope this helps clear up the situation for you and if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at any time.
