HomeMy WebLinkAboutA007 - Resolution No. 01-215 adopted May 22, 2001 RESOLUTION NO. 01-215 RESOLUTION APPROVING $6,500 FROM THE CONTINGENCY FUND TO COVER A PUBLIC EDUCATION INFORMATIONAL CAMPAIGN PERTAINING TO THE FIRE STATION BOND ISSUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the City of Ames intends to contract indebtedness and issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $1,310,000 for the purpose of constructing and equipping a fire station in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 384 of the Code of Iowa; and, WHEREAS,before the City may institute proceedings for the issuance of general obligation bonds for this project, the City must hold a special election upon the proposition of issuing such bonds and receive a favorable vote from at least 60%of the total votes cast at such special election; and, WHEREAS, while the City cannot by state law use public funds to promote the passage of a bond election, we can use City funds to educate the public about the project on which the public will vote; and, WHEREAS, it has been estimated that the cost of this special election informational campaign will be $6,500; and, WHEREAS, it is recommended that these funds be allocated from the Contingency Fund. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the allocation of$6,500 from the Contingency Fund to pay for the costs of the unbudgeted special election informational campaign pertaining to the fire station bond issue is hereby approved.
