Subject: Satellite costs
I am using the costs from the February 27 Roland Story and Colo-Nesco
Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. We did satellite voting on just the
Saturday before the election from 12noon to 4pm. Our staff arrives 30
minutes before the satellite voting starts and it takes about 30 minutes to
clean everything up after it closes. We had 5 different sites plus travel
costs and a short training/supply pickup session on the Thursday before.
We have to have a minimum of 3 workers per site. We also have to advertise
the satellite voting in the official newspaper. Since you only have one
paper the cost won't be as high.
Anyway, the grand total for that election was $$595.25 for salaries and
$43.75 for publications. We have to post flyers for satellite voting at
the locations used (one poster by each door) and I also send them to
libraries, discount stores, anywhere I can think of. We made the flyers in
house for the 2/27/01 election and, depending on how many we need, could
for this one also.
Then there are, of course, my fees for having to work all day long and work
the day of the satellite (if it's on a Saturday). I'm just whining.
We would be happy to arrange the satellite sites as often as you want.
Like I told you on the phone, we have had the greatest success at the
grocery stores and K-mart but would be willing to take any suggestions you
may have as well. I know Lowe's, Target, and the Mall have been considered
as sites.
We have found it works best to be consistent and have all the sites at the
same time rather than trying to jump around the city. We can store our
equipment at all the sites so that saves moving it around as well.
Let me know if I can get you any more information.
