HomeMy WebLinkAboutA020 - Letter from Mikie Walker dated December 20, 2002 r December 20,2002 Mayor Ted Tedesco - 2002 h i` Members of the City Council CITY CLERK Ames,Iowa CITY OF AMES,IOWA Dear Mayor and City Council Members: Please consider this letter my application for the open seat on the Ames City Council vacated by Herman Quirmbach. I have been employed by Iowa State University for 22 years as a secretary in Education Extension, Veterinary Pathology,Education Career Services and now,in the Department of English. I took seven years to complete my senior year at Iowa State University, but graduated in May of 1988 with a degree in Elementary Education. I have been involved at the Kate Mitchell Elementary School as president of the PTA,I serve now on the University Committee on Women, and as secretary/treasurer of the Kate Mitchell Neighborhood Association. My schedule at this time, would allow me to give my "community" energy to the Ames City Council. That said,I think my involvement in the community would add another perspective to the Ames City Council, I don't feel like I know much, but I am willing to learn and to listen. I would enjoy a cup of coffee with Mayor Tedesco or any council member,if that is the appropriate venue in which to find out if I would "fit." I would find service on the Ames City Council a challenge and a privilege,as well a service to my community. I would prefer that you reach me at my home at 515-232-8656,but my work phone is 515-294- 2180. Sincerely, A, Mikie S.Walker 3708 Blanshan Dr. Ames,IA 50010 . e - Office of the Mayor 515 Clark Avenue,P. Walker 3708 Blanshan Drive Ames, IA 50010 Dear Mikie: Thank you for your recent letter requesting consideration for appointment to the Fourth Ward City Council seat soon to be vacated by Herman Quirmbach. I truly appreciate your interest in serving Ames in this capacity. However, a person appointed to fill the Fourth Ward seat has to reside in that ward. Since you currently live in the First Ward, you are not eligible for appointment to fill the vacancy. Again, thank you for your interest. If you have any questions pertaining to this issue, please feel free to contact me. Yours y, ed Tedesco Mayor TT/jr
