Memo
1 1
T0: John Worley, Mary Greeley Medical Center
FROM: Nancy Gibbons, City Clerk /I
DATE: December 14, 1987
IN RE: Election Costs - November, 1987
Enclosed you will find a copy of the billing received from the Story County
Auditor for the November, 1987, election.
After careful consideration of the fair amount to be charged to the Hospital
for the election, I would respectfully submit that the Medical Center pay 1/3
of the cost of the election ($3,483) . I base this request on the fact that
there were five individuals running for City office and one special
proposition and there were three individuals running for Hospital Trustee
making a total of 9 decisions to be made by the voters. The Hospital ,
therefore, had one-third of those "decisions".
If the Hospital were to have a special election of their own, they would have
to pay for the moving of machines, ballots (a large portion of the cost of
the ballots is based on the number of individuals running for a position and
the rotation of those names on the ballots to make sure that no one
individual gets a preference due to the fact that their name appears first on
the ballot) , publication costs, election workers and miscellaneous expenses.
I do not, therefore, feel that 1/3 of the cost of this election is unfair for
the Hospital to pay.
