HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Resolution No. 80-353 adopted August 26, 1980 RESOLUTION NO. 80-353 A RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE AMES CITY COUNCIL WHEREAS, Gladys Van Drie did submit her resignation as Ames City Council Member from the First Ward effective as of noon on August 26, 1980; and, WHEREAS, a valid petition has been presented to the Ames City Council signed by fifty-seven eligible electors en- titled to vote to fill the said office in question, a number greater than two percent of the number who voted for candi- dates for said office at the last preceding election at which the office was on the ballot, to request that a spe- cial election be held November 4, 1980, concurrent with the general election, for the purpose of electing a council representative from the First Ward for the balance of the aforesaid unexpired term; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa that pursuant to the requirements of Section 372 . 13 Code of Iowa and other applicable laws of the State, a special election shall be and is hereby called, to be held concurrent with the general election on November 4, 1980 to fill the office of Ames City Council Member from the First Ward for the balance of the unexpired term which ends at noon on the first day in January, 1982, which is not a Sunday or legal holiday.
