HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Notice of Special Election NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION AME S, I O WA Public notice is hereby given that a special election has been called and ordered to be held in the City of Ames, Iowa, on Tuesday, the 24 day of May , 1977 , at which there will be submitted to the qualified voters of the City, to be by them voted upon, the following form of ballot: (Form of Ballot) (Notice to Voters: For an affirmative vote upon the question submitted, pull down the lever above the word "Yes" . For a negative vote pull down the lever above the word "No" . ) SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC b1EASURE BE ADOPTED: YES NO "Shall the City of Ames, Iowa, issue its bonds in an amount not exceeding the amount of $1,300 , 000 for the purpose of acquiring, constructing and improving swimming pools and acquiring real estate therefor, consisting of : constructing a 25-meter swimming pool and a 50-meter swimming pool , one to be located in a west side neighborhood and one to be located in an east side neighborhood, and acquiring sites therefor, and purchasing and improving the old existing Ames 1 Golf and Country Club swimming pool and 13 acres of surrounding real estate therefor, all in and for the City?" This :notice is given by order of the County Commissioner of Elections and the Council of Ames , Iowa, pursuant to Chapters 49 and 384 of the Code of Iowa, 1975, as amended. Dated this day of 1977 . That voting machines shall be used for this election and ballots shall be prepared in such size as will permit the same to be inserted in the proper place in each voting machine, and voters shall be instructed as to the use of such voting machines as by law provided, such ballots to be in substantially the following form: (Face of Ballot) (Notice to Voters : For an affirmative vote upon the question submitted, pull down the lever above the word "Yes" . Section 5. That a printed copy of the entire proposition to be voted upon shall be permanently displayed in at least two -places- within each voting precinct and on the left-hand side inside the curtain, of each voting machine in the several voting precincts within the City, such displays continuing throughout the hours during which the polls are open. Section 6 . That at the said election the ballots to be used for absent voters on the aforesaid proposition shall be prepared on paper of some color other than white in substantially the following form with the facsimile signature of the County Commissioner of Elections in the space provided therefor on the back of the ballot: -6- HERRICK, LANGDON, BELIN, HARRIS, LANGDON & HELMICK. That for the election the Election Precinct Officials of the election shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Elections not less than fifteen (15) days before the election all as provided by and in conformity with the election laws of the State of Iowa. Section 8 . That the results of the election shall be canvassed by the County Board of Supervisors as provided by law and such Board shall certify the results to this Council. Section 9 . That all of the foregoing matters are adopted and resolved by this Council but shall be submitted in writing at least thirty days before the date of the election to the Story County Commissioner of Elections who has the duty to conduct this election, for approval, ratification and confirmation to the extent required by Iowa law, and such County Commissioner of Elections shall signify such approval, rati- fication and confirmation and shall order the election to be conducted in the manner set forth herein by signing the order attached to this resolution. I do further certify that on the 21 day of April 1977 , (being at least thirty days before the aforementioned election) I mailed written notice to the County Commissioner of Elections of the proposed date of election and did thereafter receive written approval from the Commissioner of such date. I do further certify that the polling place for each election precinct for the aforementioned election was the usual polling place for that precinct and is the same polling place as that used for the last primary or general election, except for the following: (Insert name of precinct where there was a change in polling place. If there were none, insert the word "none" ) . See Attached And I do further certify that a notice of the change of polling place for such precinct was given by publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the precinct not more than fifteen nor less than five days prior to the day on which the aforementioned election was held, and in addition a notice of the present polling place for such precinct was posted not later than the hour at which the polls opened on the day of the election on each door to the usual or former polling place in such precinct, and remained there until the polls closed.
