Ordering an Election on the proposition of issuing bonds to the amount of $1,900,000 for constructing a new city hall and acquiring additional land which will be used for the site of the new city hall. WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary and advisable that the City of Ames, Iowa, construct a new city hall and acquire additional land known as the Northwestern Railway Depot Land which, with a part of the Depot Parking Lot, will be used for the site of the new city hall in and for said City at a cost not exceeding One Million Nine hundred Thousand Dollars ($1, 900, 000) for which purpose it will be necessary to borrow money and issue bonds of said City; and WHEREAS, before said construction can begin and before said site can be acquired and before money can be borrowed or bonds of said City can be issued to cover the expense thereof, the question must Le presented to the qualified voters of the City for their approval, as required by Chapter 407 of the Code of Iowa, 1966; and WHEREAS registration of voters is requires: for elections held in said City and elections therein are governed accordingly; NOW, THEREFORE:, be It Resolved by the City Council of the City of Ames Iowa, as follows : Section 1. That a special election is hereiay callest ana orsierea to be held in and for the City of Ames, Iowa, on the __ day of _ termer _ _, 1969 , at which there s� be submitted to the_qua�ified electors of said City, to be by them voted upon, the proposition of constructing a new city hall and acquiring additional land which will be used for the site of the new city hall in and for said City and incurring indebtedness and issuing bonds in the sum of $1,900 ,000 to cover the the expense of the same, as provided in Chapter 407 of the Code of Iowa, 1966 . Section 2. That for said election on said proposition the City shall be divided into twelve voting precincts as prescribed for regular elections in said City, the boundaries of which shall be as delimited by Ordinances Numbered 2171 and 2173 of said City. The polls shall be kept open from seven o'clock in the morning until eight o'clock in the evening, and the polling places within the respective election precincts shall be as follows : HERRICK, LANGDON, BELIN & HARRIS, LAWYERS, DES MOINES, IOWA Voting Precincts Pollin Places Precinct 1, Ward 1 Band Shell Precinct 2, Ward 1 Meeker School Precinct 3 , Ward 1 Grand Avenue Baptist Church Precinct 1, Ward 2 Central School Precinct 2, Ward 2 Beloit of Ames School Precinct 3 , Ward 2 High School Precinct 1, ward 3 Lincoln School Precinct 2, Ward 3 Louise Crawford School Precinct 3, Ward 3 John E. Harlan School Precinct 1, Ward 4 Edwards School Precinct 2, Ward 4 Abbie Sawyer School Precinct 3, Ward 4 Pammel Recreation Hall Section 3. That the Mayor is hereby authorized, empowered and instructed to issue a proclamation and notice of the calling of said special election on said proposition, and of the time and place thereof, by publication thereof once each week for three consecutive weeks and on the same day of each week in the Ames Ua_ij, Tribune, a legal newspaper of general circulation printed^and published in said City, the last of which publications shall be not less than five nor more than twenty days prior to said election, which notice shall be in substantially the following form: HERRICK, LANGDON, BELIN & HARRIS, LAWYERS, DES MOINES. IOWA i • MAYOR' S PROCLAMATION NOTICE: OF SPECIAL ELLCTION AMES, IOWA PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that a special city election has been called and ordered to be held in the City of Antes, Iowa, on the 23r-d day of 1969 , from seven o'clock a.m. , to eight o'clock p.mg which there will be submitted to the electors of said City, to be by them voted upon, the proposition of construct- ing a new city hall and acquiring additional land which will be used for the site of the new city hall in and for said City and contracting indebtedness for such purpose not exceeding $1,900 ,000 and issuing bonds for such purpose not exceeding $1,900 ,000 and levying a tax annually upon the taxable property in said City not exceeding three and eight-tenths mills per annum for the payment of such bonds and the interest thereon. At said election the ballots to be used for the submission of the aforesaid proposition will be in substantially the following form: (Face of Ballot) (notice to Voters: For an affirmative vote upon any question submitted upon this ballot make a cross (x) mark or check (V) in the square after the word "Yes" . For a negative vote make a similar mark in the square following the word -"No" . ) SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED: "Shall the City of Ames, Iowa, construct a new city hall and acquire additional land known as the Northwestern Railway Depot Land which, with a part of the Depot Parking Lot, will be used for the site of the new city hall in and for said City and contract indebtedness YES . for such purpose not exceeding One Million _ Nine Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,900,000) and issue bonds for such purpose not exceeding One Million Hine Hundred Thousand Dollars : NO ($1, 900, 000) and levy a tax annually upon the taxable property in said City of Ames, Iowa, not exceeding three and eight-tenths Trolls per annum for the payment of such bonds and the interest thereon?"
