HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Resolution No. 5323 adopted October 1, 1968 RESOLUTION NO. 5323 RESOLUTION ordering an election on the proposition of issuing bonds to the amount of $100,000 for acquiring a site for a new city hall. WHEREAS it is deemed necessary and advisable that the City of Ames, Iowa, acquire a site for a new city hall in and for said City at a cost of not exceeding One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) for which purpose it will be necessary to borrow money and issue bonds of said City; and WHEREAS before said site can be acquired and before money can be borrowed or bonds of said City can be issued to cover the expense thereof, the question must be presented to the qualified voters of the City for their approval, as required by Chapter 407 of the Code of Iowa, 1966; and WHEREAS registration of voters is required for elections held in said City and elections therein are governed accordingly; NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, as follows: Section 1. That a special election is hereby called and ordered to be held in and for the City of Ames, Iowa, (in conjunction with the general election) , on the 5 tj-1 day of 14overnber , 1968, at which there shall be submitted to the qualified electors of said City, to be by them voted upon, the proposition of acquiring a site for a new city hall in and for said City and incurring indebtedness and issuing bonds in the sum of $100 ,000 to cover the expense of the same, as provided in Chapter 407 of the Code of Iowa, 1966. Section 2. That for said election on said proposition the City shall be divided into twelve voting precincts as prescribed for regular elections in said City, the boundaries of which shall be as delimited by Ordinances Numbered 2171 and 2173 of said City. The polls shall be kept open from seven o'clock in the morning until eight o'clock in the evening, and the polling places within the respective election precincts shall be as follows: HERRICK, LANGDON, BELIN & HARRIS, LAWYERS, DES MOINES, IOWA Voting Precincts Polling Places Precinct 1, Ward 1 Band Shell Precinct 2, Ward 1 Meeker School Precinct 3, Ward 1 Grand Avenue Baptist Church Precinct 1, Ward 2 Central School Precinct 2 , ward 2 Beloit of Ames School Precinct 3, Ward 2 High School Precinct 1, Ward 3 Lincoln School Precinct 2 , Ward 3 Louise Crawford School Precinct 3, Ward 3 John Ee `iarlan Sc-!.7ool Precinct 1, Ward 4 Edwards School Precinct 2, hard 4 Abbie Sawyer School Precinct 3, Ward 4 Pammel Recreation Fall Section 3, That the Mayor is hereby authorized, empowered and instructed to issue a proclamation and notice of the calling of said special election on said proposition, and of the time and place thereof, by publication thereof once each week for three consecutive weeks and on the same day of each week in the 201es wily Tribune , a legal newspaper of general circulation printed and published in said City, the last of which publications shall be not less than five nor more than twenty days prior to said election, which notice shall be in substantially the following form: HERRICK, LANGDON, BELIN & HARRIS, LAWYERS, DES MOINES, IOWA P1AYOR'S PROCLAMATION NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION AMES, IOWA PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that a special city election has been called and ordered to be held in the City of Ames, Iowa, on the day of a F, , 1968, from seven o'clock A.M. , CST, to eight o'clock P.M. , CST, at which there will be submitted to the electors of said City, to be by them voted upon, the proposition of acquiring a site for a new city hall in and for said City and contracting indebtedness for such purpose not exceeding $100,000 and issuing bonds for such purpose not exceeding $100,000 and levying a tax annually upon the taxable property in said City not exceeding four-tenths of a mill per annum for the payment of such bonds and the interest thereon. At said election the ballots to be used for the submission of the aforesaid proposition will be in substantially the following form: (Face of Ballot) (Notice to Voters: For an affirmative vote upon any question submitted upon this ballot make a cross (x) mark or check (&/) in the square after the word "Yes" . For a negative vote make a similar nark in the square following the word ""No",) "SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED? Shall the City of Ames, Iowa, acquire a site for a new city hall in and for said City and contract indebtedness for such purpose not exceeding $100,000 and issue bonds for such purpose not w YES exceeding $100,000 and levy a tax annually upon : the taxable property in said City of Ames, Iowa, not exceeding four-tenths of a mill per annum NO for the payment of such bonds and the interest : thereon?" Upon the closing of the polls for said election, said Judges and Clerks shall file reports of the results of the vote on said proposition with the City Clerk in order that such results may be canvassed and officially declared by this Council. Section 6. That this Council meet on the next (secular) day following the day of said election, at the City Full within said City, at O'clock .M. , CrC_____T, to canvass and declare the results of said election. Section 7. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Section 8.
