Even though the dollar amount is one that I could approve at the department level, this is a 37% increase so it needs to go back to Council for approval. • Water Plant Security System Addition-This will include a request to waive bidding procedures and award a single source contract to Baker Group to add additional card readers to the existing security system. The dollar amount, at$49,000, is just below the threshold for Council action, but with this type of work change orders are very likely. Since there's a good chance we'll cross that$50,000 threshold and have to come back to Council later, I'd rather go ahead and do it now. • Issuance of a Notice of Public Hearing for the Raw Water Loop Line project. The action requested by Council is to set Usrch 25,200&'Council meeting as the date of the public hearing. 'Tho, al public notice is beilng drafted by Graharntand Acquisition. We will provide Council with itopies of the letters that will be sent to potentially affected property owners and tenants. John R. Dunn, P.E. The subject will be"Contract for Security System Improvements for Water Treatment Plant." The Council action requested will be to waive purchasing policies and award a single source contract to Baker Group of Des Moines, IA in the amount of$49,000. Bob-We are asking for approval of a negotiated agreement with Baker Group, the contractor who originally installed the security system for the Water Plant. Baker's original contract was competitively bid. Now we want to make sure that the system expansion integrates seamlessly with our existing system. (Plus we've benefitted tremendously from the post-construction support that Baker has provided.) The contract dollar amount, at$49,000, is just under the threshold requiring this to be awarded by Council. But since we're asking to do this as a single source award, and also because even a small change order would throw us over the $50,000 threshold, I'd prefer to have Council approve this contract. The CAF will be coming sometime next week. John R. Dunn, P.E. Director, Ames Water and Pollution Control Department — Caring People—Quality Programs— Exceptional Service
