COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: APPROVING EASEMENT FROM AMERIGAS FOR RELOCATING 14" WATER
MAIN FOR THE DAYTON AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
BACKGROUND:
During the past couple of years, City staff and the consulting firm of Snyder and Associates
have been working with the area businesses on a plan to reconstruct Dayton Avenue and build
a viaduct over the Union Pacific railroad crossing.
The viaduct construction requires relocation of the existing 14" water main crossing the Union
Pacific Railroad (UPRR) from the east side of Dayton Avenue to the west side of Dayton
Avenue. This water main relocation started 200' south of Pullman Street and ended 300' north
of the UPRR.
The relocation of the 14" water main between Pullman Street and 300 feet north of the UPRR
has been completed. Between Pullman Street and 200 feet south of Pullman Street the 14"
water main was to be located between the electric substation security fence and the bridge
approach retaining wall. When considering the need to maintain proper clearances from
underground electric, overhead electric, the retaining wall and other utilities, it was determined
that the water main should not be routed through this corridor.
An alternate route was found starting at 200 feet south of Pullman Street; then west across the
north 15' of AmeriGas, then north across the City Maintenance yard to Pullman Street.
AmeriGas has been contacted and has provided an easement. The appraised value of the
easement is $6,000 and AmeriGas will accept the appraised value. The water line relocation
work is funded as part of the Dayton Avenue Reconstruction Project.
ALTERNATIVES:
1 Approve the easement from AmeriGas for the relocation of the 14" water main for the
Dayton Avenue viaduct.
2. Reject the easement
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt alternative number 1,
thereby approving the easement from AmeriGas for the relocation of the 14" water main for the
Dayton Avenue viaduct.
