COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: EASEMENT AGREEMENT WITH AMES COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
BACKGROUND:
City Well No. 8 has been out of service since late 1999 due to a failure in the underground well
casing. Design of a replacement City Well No. 8A is under way with plans to begin construction
this summer. Abandonment of the original well is included in this project.
In order to construct the well, right-of-way easements are required from two property owners. A
copy of the first negotiated easement is attached.
Funding for purchase of the easement agreement is included in the approved Cl P which includes
a total of$125,000. The Ames School Board approved the easement at its March 5 meeting. Staff
are negotiating an ingress/egress easement with the other property owner.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve the easement agreement with the Ames Community School District and authorize
payment in the amount of$800.00.
2. Do not approve the easement agreement at this time.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative No. 1.
