COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF WATER MAIN EASEMENT--AP'PLM SC=C$
CENTER
BACKGROUND:
The City of Ames has finally worked out an acceptable route for the proposed
water line through the Applied. Science Center property at Iowa State
University. In order to complete the project, the City must obtain an easement E
from the University. Once Council approval is secured, the staff will ask the
ISU Administration to seek approval from the Board of Regents at their duly
Board meeting.
In order to expedite this process, staff has proceeded with soliciting bids for
this project in advance of any formal approval by the University of an easement
on which this project will be located. However, staff will not recommend formal
approval of this contract, currently scheduled for the second meeting in duly,
until the Board of Regents has approved the easement for this water main
project.
Assuming that the University and the City agree to the modified language in
the water and sewer agreements outlined in the prior agenda item, it would {
appear that the University Administration will be recommending that the
easement be granted to the City. '
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve the attached water easement agreement at the Applied Science
Center and request that the Board of Regents approve this document as soon as
possible
2. Reject the attached water easement agreement at the Applied Science
Center. This action would delay the completion of this crucial project which
will benefit specifically those facilities at the Applied Science Center as well as
the total water distribution service for the City of Ames.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt
Alternative #1 and approve the attached water main easement agreement at the
Applied Science Center and request the Board of Regents to approve this
document as soon as possible
